The Project is now developing the “Strategic Action Programme (SAP).” This document will provide a roadmap for rebuilding the ecosystem carrying capacity though a combination of management actions, improvements in environmental legislation and enforcement, improved regional coordination and national cooperation between government agencies, elimination of environmentally damaging subsidies, enhanced public awareness and capacity building and the use of regional monitoring networks. Once in place, these will help limit the loss of habitat, the degradation of the environment and rebuild fish stocks through the promotion of the principle of sustainable use that ensures these ecosystem services for future generations. Before fully implementing the SAP and the management actions contained therein, the actions need to be tested to determine their effectiveness. This will be done through demonstrating some key management actions proposed by the Project’s Regional Working Group members. Demonstration activities will be selected by a panel of external reviewers and the Project Management Office after reviewing all submitted proposals.
